Estimated $500,000 Worth Michael Jordan Shoes Triggers Yet Another Bidding War

Another Michael Jordan game memorabilia has been unearthed. As expected, the precious item is already headed for auction. This is one of the 22 pairs presented by the consignor who was a former ball boy. And just like the high numbers MJ racked up in his career, this sneaker is also likely to fetch jaw-dropping amounts. Considering the amount achieved by MJ’s other game memorabilia and items, the price might not come as a surprise. The pair is expected to go for about $500,000 at the Robert Edward Auctions.

The consignor of the collection previously worked for the Detroit Pistons for three seasons between 1983 and 1986. This proves that the shoes date back to Jordan’s rookie year. Most of Jordan’s rookie year shoes just like the one from the Original Air collection fetch around half a million at auction. This lineup will also include the PSA-rated 10 1986-87 Fleer Michael Jordan card. This one is associated with his third season in the league and is listed for US$130,000.

Other highlights from the auction include shoes from NBA veterans Dominique Wilkins, Isiah Thomas, and more. If the 6x champion’ rookie year shoes hold much value in the market, how much do his championship shoes sell for? Let’s take a look.

Obtained from a private collector, auction house Sotheby’s announced the sale of the Dynasty Collection in February. The collection features a pair of sneakers that Jordan wore during his six championship runs 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996, 1997, and 1998 with the Chicago Bulls. Each of these six shoes is signed by MJ, making it a rare collection. The collection was sold for $8 million. While it didn’t break the record set by Jordan’s 1998 game-worn jersey which sold for 10.1 million in 2021, it was quite close.

About the sale and the significance of the shoes, Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s Head of Modern Collectables, said, “Today’s record-breaking price is a testament to the GOAT. The Dynasty Collection undeniably ranks among the most significant compilations of sports memorabilia in history.”

He further added, “Serving as both a reminder of Michael Jordan’s lasting impact on the world and a tangible expression of his recognized legendary status, its significance is further validated by this monumental result. A truly unparalleled moment and a milestone in auction history, the sale of these six championship-clinching sneakers will likely never be replicated.”

This is hardly surprising. Back in 2022, a simple unused ticket to the Chicago Bulls legend’s 1984 game was sold for $468,000 at Heritage auctions. How much do you think the latest memorabilia will sell for? Let us know in the comments section below.
